What is Lake Toya?
Lake Toya is a huge caldera lake created by an eruption, and is a natural beauty that celebrates the passage of time over 110,000 years
Lake Toya is the central lake of Shikotsu-Toya National Park and has an area of approximately 7,000 hectares
The source of pyroclastic flows from an eruption about 110,000 years ago collapsed, forming the Toya Caldera
Rainwater and other water accumulated there, and Lake Toya was born
It is the third deepest lake in Hokkaido after Lake Shikotsu and Lake Mashu, and the sixth deepest in the country
It is known as a "freeze-free lake" whose surface does not freeze even in the harsh cold of Hokkaido
The average annual visibility of Lake Toya is about 14m
The water around Nakajima is so clear that you can clearly see the driftwood on the bottom of the lake
